Press Briefing by former Captain Imran Khan

Former Captain Of Pakistan, Imran Khan has again declared Muhammad Sami as one of the world’s most promising fast bowlers. Imran says that Sami has guts and talent but has not developed the art of taking wickets.

Imran Khan gave some tips and advices to Muhammad Sami on January 6, 2005 at National Academy. After that he said in press briefing:

“Sami is one of the world’s promising bowlers but he could not develop the art of taking wickets despite considerable time. In the beginning a fast bowler always tries to bowl fast and learn the art of taking wickets gradually but unfortunately Sami could not do it despite having potential and talent.”

Although, Imran did not suggest the need of bowling coach for the team but gave some hint about it by saying “such tips for the fast bowlers are necessary since the Pakistan Captain (Inzamam-Ul-Haq) and coach (Bob Woolmer) are basically batsman.”

He also emphasized that great bowlers like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis should come forward and give tips and tricks to the fast bowlers.

“The fast bowling department has been the strength of Pakistan and the current whether of the country is the best for fast bowlers to bowl out Indians twine in a match,” he said.

How ever he said that he can’t predict how much the whether would disrupt the matches.

Imran agreed that Indian pacer Irfan Pathan was also among the promising fast bowlers and was in a position to perform better under such conditions.

Imran was all praise for Pakistani Captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq and said all credit goes to the skipper for reviving Pakistan Cricket.

“I think the current revival of Pakistan Cricket is due to Inzamam. When a captain performs under difficult situation the other players also do that and that is the main factor that made the team united, ” Imran said.

Imran also praised Shoaib Akhter’s current form and claimed the bowler had never been a problem.

“I have been saying there is no problem with Shoaib Akhtar but it is the management which can not handle the player properly,” He said.

Like Indian Captain Rahul Dravid, Imran was also in favour of series between Pakistan and India on the pattern of Ashes (Australia vs England).

“There must be a specific format of cricket activities between two countries like Ashes to keep fans’ interest alive,” he added.

He argued the need for a specialist opening pair for the Pakistan Team.
